WELCOME TO Sivagangai

Sivagangai District was part of old Ramanathapuram District. The old Ramanathapuram District placed a dominate Role in history of South india. In early centuries Ramanathapuram district farmed part of Pandian kingdom till the end of 15th century.

After the full of Nayak, two of the palayakarar. Sethupathy of Ramanathapuram and Rajas of Sivaganga became prominent Rulers of his part. Towards me middle of 18th century the Europe, the French and the British entered into this part. The Sethupathy of Ramanathapuram Lost his personal freedom and british took control of the administration of ramanathapuram in 1795. It was converted into a Zamindari in 1803 and Mangaleswari Natchiar became the First Zamindar. During his personal the Raja of sivaganga also related against the british. The famous Maruthu Brothers. Periya maruthu and chinna maruthu assuited the Raja of Sivagaga in the revolts against the British. After the death of the Raja of Sivaganga (Muthu Vaduganathar) the queen passed on the & over eighty to Marudhu brothers, who ruled sivaganga peacefully and devoted on the payment of regular revenue to the East India company in 1801.

This district is situated North by Tiruchy and pudukottai district on the east and south by Ramanathapuram district and as the west by virudhunagar district. In Sep 1997 Government change the name of the Sivaganga district as Sivaganga District
