THIRUMAYAM FORT


Thiurmayam is a heritage town on the way to Karaikudi, Rameshwaram-Trichy highway. It is located about 20 km south of Pudukkottai in Southern Indian State of Tamilnadu. The main attraction of this place is Fort, Shiva and Vishnu temple. This fort is set in 40 acres and it is considered as a great historical importance. It was built by Sethupathi Vijaya Raghunatha Thevar, ruler of Ramanathapuram in 1687 A.D It was built close to 400 years ago. Bhairava temple was almost built on outermost wall of this old fort. During World War II, the fort was used as an armory by the British army. This fort is built on huge boulders and circles the hill.
